Is telehealth right for my family?

Telehealth is not for everyone. Children who are “movers and groovers” may struggle to benefit from telehealth therapy, as it requires staying seated and sustaining attention on a computer. For some children, telehealth is preferred as it allows the child to receive treatment in their comfort zone. Telehealth is also a wonderful way to deliver parent support, as the psychologist can observe concerns directly in a very discrete manner and provide feedback/intervention techniques directly to the parent for implementation.

What type of therapy is available through telehealth?

Much like any therapy, the approach will be individualized to the needs of the child. Many children have successfully received treatment via telehealth through one or many of the following treatment approaches: social skills modeling/videos/games, cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, parent coaching/parent-child interaction therapy, art therapy, positive psychotherapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness-based therapy.
