What is early intervention?
Early Intervention refers to therapy services provided to children with developmental delays or disabilities under the age of 3. Intervening at such a crucial time in development can have a significant positive effect on outcomes. Breakthrough Learning Group provides early intervention assessment and services for children presenting with developmental delays or difficulties related to behavior or communication.
New Jersey Early Intervention (NJEI)
As a resident of New Jersey, you have a right to “Child Find” through the NJ Early Intervention System (NJEI). For more information about publicly funded resources and services for your child under the age of 3, call the state-wide toll-free number: 888-653-4463. You will be asked to report your concerns, and a coordinator will decide if an evaluation is warranted based on those concerns.
Private versus Public Early Intervention
An advantage of public, state-funded services is that the initial evaluation is provided at no cost to you. NJEI looks for a 25% delay in two or more developmental areas, or a 33% delay in one developmental area; they will only offer services if this criteria is met. Once your child qualifies, recommended services are often partially subsidized by the state, depending on family income.
Breakthrough Learning Group provides private early intervention services. Unlike public NJEI, we have no strict requirements or cut-offs for the severity of your child’s difficulties in order to provide services. Parent support and involvement is a fundamental component of our early intervention services. Because we are a private practice, we are able to construct and deliver a high quality program that is comprehensive and individualized for your child.
